San Francisco – The Leading Voices in Real Estate (LVRE) podcast recently celebrated its 100th episode, having spanned five years of interviews with many of commercial real estate’s (CRE) most successful, interesting, and entrepreneurial pioneers. One of the top CRE and career podcasts, LVRE is hosted by Matt Slepin, Founder and Managing Director of Terra Search Partners (Terra Search), a retained, boutique real estate executive search firm. This 100th episode coincides with a brand refresh for the program that includes an updated show website, a new logo, and complete integration with Terra Search’s corporate online presence.
“Reaching 100 episodes is a milestone that I could not have imagined when we started this project with the Urban Land Institute back in 2017, and as I look back on what we have achieved, I am most proud of the insights that these conversations can provide for current and future innovators of real estate,” says Slepin. “The trailblazers we’ve interviewed showcase the breadth of the industry and the pathways that are necessary to make an impact in this business, whether the topic is focused on the pure growth of a company, or using the built environment to impact change around topics like inclusion, sustainability, housing affordability, or technology innovations. The Leading Voices archive provides real-world business lessons for leaders to learn from other leaders, and for young people seeking inspiration and success in their real estate career.”
In conjunction with the 100th episode, Terra Search has unveiled a new LVRE show logo and website that integrates with Terra Search’s main site. Terra Search’s clients and podcast listeners alike can now easily access the program and the massive library of content in one central location, enjoying each episode at their own pace. The show’s subscribers and other fans can peruse the complete archives, searching for specific guests and topics. Notable guests have included real estate luminaries like Sam Zell, Gerald Hines, and Art Gensler. The show has had multiple in-depth episodes on PropTech, affordable housing, and diversity, sustainability, and women’s leadership within real estate. Guests have included trendsetters across all major property sectors as well as experts in brokerage, mortgage finance, and design. For the 100th episode, Google’s Head of Real Estate, David Radcliffe, sat down with Slepin to discuss the tech giant’s global real estate portfolio, workplace services, and the physical security tools that enable Google to thrive.
“By integrating the podcast with the Terra Search site, we are creating another direct avenue for listeners to engage with the show and concurrently learn more about what Terra Search does in our search business,” adds Slepin. “As an executive search firm, we work diligently to understand the social and cultural factors that drive professional goals and commitments and use those tools to match outstanding real estate professionals with leading companies.”
While the first few years were focused on the career journeys of many notable CRE professionals, recent social milestones have shifted the programming. The George Floyd protests, heightened environmental concerns, and the global pandemic were a few of the reasons Slepin and his team saw a need to change how each episode takes shape. Now, every guest conversation starts with a deep-dive into their business and its relevance with current market challenges and trends, before shifting to a retrospective look at the their professional path. Following that theme, the guests featured in August 2021, Greg Smithies from Fifth Wall, Marta Schantz from ULI’s Greeenprint Center, and Elana Alschuler from Lasalle Investment Management, all offer thoughtful discussions about the role real estate plays in climate change.
But regardless of the evolving format, one thing has always remained: a commitment to delivering insightful, thought-provoking content that resonates with listeners.
“You’re the only person in the industry to put something like this together, and I think it is an incredible service to our field,” writes one listener. Another says, “I rarely get the chance to step back, think macro, and savor the gratitude of working in this existing industry at this exciting time. Listening to your podcast has afforded some of that needed reflection. Still, another, referring to the podcast and Slepin’s format, says, “I absolutely love listening to it. You do such an amazing job of placing the listener in the same room with you.”
And yet another listener enthusiastically wrote to Slepin“I appreciate the fact that not only do you include so many people of color, but your thoughtfulness in the questions that you ask and your genuine interest in what they have to say is refreshing.”
As Slepin and his team focus on the future of the show, his interest isn’t simply on delivering fascinating conversations and commentary, but presenting fresh insight into how real estate can elevate itself as a business while also enhancing our communities.
“Our hope is that by showcasing so many voices, backgrounds, and ideas, we can continue to raise the bar within our industry. Not just in terms of professionalism, best practices, and business growth but also how our industry can make a positive difference against the challenges of our time.”
